The Retreat Costa Rica was a soul-reset in every sense of the word. Tucked into the lush hills overlooking the Nicoya Peninsula, this 6-day wellness getaway blended intentional rest with gentle adventure—think sunrise yoga, forest hikes, sound baths, spa rituals, and moments of stillness framed by jungle views. Days were nourished with organic, anti-inflammatory cuisine grown on-site, while each experience felt thoughtfully designed to restore balance, clarity, and connection. More than a retreat, it was a return to presence—leaving me grounded, recharged, and deeply inspired.

A wellness retreat is meant for slowing down and resetting. It was perfect to start the new year off right. If you want to relax, you can do so by 2 pools but there is plenty of slow-paced activities to participate in as well. They offer yoga twice a day, there are hiking trails on property through their organic coffee plantation or down to a waterfall and natural pool, or you can stumble up on a large tree with several swings for a quick break. And of course, their wonderful spa on site with healing rituals like lymphatic massage or Reiki healing. Definitely recommend booking all activities and spa treatments prior to arrival as they book up fast.

All food was deliciously prepared by head chef, Sergio using their farm to table ingredients grown right on property. They serve an anti-inflammatory diet that is grain-free, dairy-free, sugar-free but certainly not taste free. Breakfast and Lunch were 2 course meals and Dinner was a 3-course meal with a protein option offered. They also have an 8-course restaurant on site called Mystique but the food at the Sol Terrace Restaurant was excellent so I didn't feel the need to splurge. Especially with the all-inclusive package for meals that kept me feeling full, I was very happy with the main restaurant.

The Retreat offers far more than spa treatments and twice-daily yoga, with a thoughtfully curated schedule of holistic experiences each day. During my stay, I explored their on-site coffee plantation, learned about Costa Rican coffee traditions, and enjoyed making old-fashioned coffee and handmade tortillas. Evenings were deeply restorative with healing sound baths using gongs and crystal bowls, while lighter moments included a Mimosa & Bloody Mary class with a healthy twist. My stay ended with a Moonlight Gathering—cocktails by the fire, meaningful conversations, and new friendships under the stars.

While the intent of a wellness retreat is to decompress on site, I did decide to take a day tour booked through the property to the Poas Volcano, La Paz Waterfall and a rescue sanctuary. It was great to see the countryside. We started at a Coffee Plantation for a sample of local Costa Rican coffee, then we head to the Poas Volcano - an active volcano with a short hike up to the top where we saw the steam and sulfur cloud. Quite a site! The last eruption was just in February of this year! Then we drove a bit to the La Paz Waterfall park that started with the rescue sanctuary. We saw sloths, Toucans, Jaguars and more! The exit led to the waterfall paths you could hike down to about 3 waterfalls in total. Pointer: there are microclimates in Cota Rica and being high in the mountains, it was misty and rainy so come prepared.
